New Affordable Housing Development Breaks Ground in Kansas City
Kansas City, MO – A new chapter in affordable housing begins in the heart of Kansas City as community leaders, partners, and elected officials come together to celebrate the groundbreaking of a transformative housing development, Crescendo Townhomes. The project, led by Brinshore Development and Urban Neighborhood Initiative (UNI), aims to bring high-quality, affordable housing options to residents while fostering neighborhood revitalization and long-term stability.
Crescendo Townhomes is part of a broader initiative to address the growing demand for affordable, sustainable housing in the Wendell Phillips neighborhood. The new 39-unit community will feature a mix of 1- to 3-bedroom units across 9 three-story townhome buildings and a community building with 3 units above. As the new office location for UNI, the community building will also offer a location for supportive services, a community room for resident use, and a patio facing a butterfly garden.
“This project is about strengthening the community from within,” said David Brint, Co-founding Principal at Brinshore Development. “We’re creating housing that supports families, honors this neighborhood’s roots, and helps ensure long-time residents can stay and thrive.”
“This groundbreaking is more than the start of a building—it is the culmination of seven years of commitment, partnership, and belief in the Wendell Phillips neighborhood,” said Sakina Moore, Interim President & CEO of UNI. “We are deeply grateful to our partners who made this possible and proud to bring affordable housing that connects families to schools, resources, and the historic 18th and Vine district. This community deserves housing that honors its legacy while building a stronger future, and UNI is thrilled to be part of it.”
The development is made possible through partnerships with local stakeholders, private partnerships and programs committed to equity and access in housing.
