The 108-unit new construction project is the next phase of the Highlander Neighborhood Revitalization Project and latest phase of the North 30th HUD Choice Neighborhoods Implementation (CNI) Grant.

Highlander Phase IV Breaks Ground with The Overlook and Burdette & Wade

Evanston (April 29, 2022) – The Overlook, Burdette and Wade (Highlander Phase IV) is a 108 unit mixed-income development in the heart of the Highlander neighborhood and the second phase of the City of Omaha (City) and Omaha Housing Authority’s (OHA) North 30th Choice Neighborhoods Initiative effort.

A partnership of the place-based non-profit Seventy Five North Revitalization Corporation and Brinshore Development, LLC, in close collaborate with the City and OHA, this project will add housing of a variety of unit types and products to an already thriving Highlander neighborhood.

“This development represents an exciting and transformational next step in the revitalization of Highlander and the north 30th street corridor” said Cydney Franklin, President & CEO Seventy Five North Revitalization Corporation. “Seventy Five North's commitment to producing high-quality, mixed-income housing options and commercial amenities is at the core of our efforts as a community-building entity in North Omaha. We're proud to partner with the wide-ranging organizations that have gathered to make Highlander Phase IV possible.”

The Overlook, Burdette and Wade will deliver truly mixed-income housing available to households across the income spectrum, from families coming from public housing to market rate renters.  In addition, as part of the Choice Neighborhoods project, 1/3 of the units will have a preference at lease-up for residents that are coming from Spencer Homes Apartments.

The Overlook, Burdette and Wade will have about 4,000 sf of retail space in two prominent corners of Burdette and Patrick.

The development was made possible with funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)’s Choice Neighborhoods program, Nebraska Investment Finance Authority (NIFA) tax exempt multifamily revenue bonds and tax credits, funding from the City of Omaha, funding from the Sherwood Foundation, construction and permanent financing from Horizon Bank and Cedar Rapids Bank and Trust, and tax credit equity from Midwest Housing Equity Group and Sugar Creek Capital.

The development was designed by Alley Poyner Macchietto Architecture and Landon Bone Baker, with civil engineering services provided by Ehrhart Griffin & Associates.

According to Brinshore founding principal Richard Sciortino, “Brinshore is committed to restoring the rich history of this important Omaha neighborhood alongside our incredible partners.  This phase of Highlander epitomizes what neighborhood revitalization can be when high quality architecture and mixed-income, mixed-use development intersect.”

Hausmann Construction is the general contractor.  The development will be complete by Spring 2023.
